Sea gardens of Posidonia oceanica

“Sea Gardens of Posidonia oceanica is a citizen science and environmental education project involving students from Kalymnos and Patmos. The project focuses on raising awareness about Posidonia oceanica seagrass meadows, their ecological importance, and the threats they face in the Mediterranean. Through interactive school workshops, field activities, and hands-on learning, students participate in mapping local seagrass habitats, documenting marine biodiversity, and developing environmental stewardship. The project also strengthens collaboration between schools, researchers, and local communities, promoting long-term protection and monitoring of coastal ecosystems in the Aegean Sea.

The project is implemented with the support of the Athanasios C. Laskaridis Charitable Foundation within the framework of the “Points of Support” program co-financed by ten (10) non-profit organizations.
